  • SUBS DUE Nov 1st

Subs for the year 22/23 are due at a rate of £7.50 per person.

    I will collect subs in person on Sundays 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th November in the hut (site 1), 10am – 12pm.

Please feel free to contact me on committee@abbeyheyallotments.org.uk or your site reps if you would like to arrange online payment or cash payment on another day, or if you have any queries.

    SUBS INFORMATION

Subs is £7.50 per person per year.

£3 of this goes to NAS / NSALG – this is a not for profit organisation which upholds the interests and rights of allotment society and individual allotment users nationally.

The benefits of NAS membership include support, advice and guidance both to the committee and to you as plotholders. We are also able to access legal advice through them should we need to.

Through membership of NAS we also get Allotmenteers’ Liability Insurance, which offers £5million liability cover if plotholders are accused of accidentally causing injury or damage to property.

The other £4.50 goes towards the following:

    • General site maintenance, e.g. new locks, emptying of the septic tank
    • Repairs, e.g. stores’ roof needs repairs carrying out at present
    • Utility bills
    • Public liability and Building insurance through Chris Knott specialist allotment insurers
    • Website maintenance, etc.

What your subs do not go towards:

    • Beekeeping; the beekeepers manage their own accounts and any profits are donated to the society.

    Thanks – see you there.

  • Just a quick update.

The website has now been updated and we now have a members area accessible to plotholders only. Please join us for all information relevent to members. Once you have registered checks will be made to ensure your a plotholder before your membership is accepted. If there are any things you would like to see on the website please email your ideas to committee@abbeyheyallotments.org.uk .

The bank account is fully set up now and funds finally in the account from the council.

Five of the six empty plots have now been taken on and the new plotholders have started working them.

  • Councils advice regarding Vermin.

  • The committee meeting held on 24/07/22 saw all the roles filled and a complete new committee formed.

There are numerous challenges for us to face and we feel steady progress has been made.

So far our Treasurer Kathie has managed to open a new bank account for the society which a lot of further progress depends on.

I have liaised with the former website manager and I am in the process of moving the website to a new hosting service. Our intentions are for the website to be more useful to all our society members with events and news regularly updated.

The treasurer will also be working to make financial data more transparent with the publishing of monthly accounts to be discussed at open meetings.

Val, Kathie and myself conducted a tour of the entire site with a view to identifying unused and poorly maintained plots and I am currently in the process of contacting the holders of these plots to establish their intentions.

We all feel strongly that they are a big resource that are going to waste. It is also unfair to the many people on the waiting list that these plots are lying idle.

    Happy Growing

    Brian (Secretary)
